FAQ´S

To start importing it is essential to know that we have control of all the implicit factors.

Knowing the product that we are going to import, choosing with certainty a good supplier, knowing in advance the transport costs and taxes, are valuable issues that will make the business we bring in hand will be profitable. Based solely on the cost of the product put in the warehouse of origin, is a mistake. It is necessary that you consult with experts in the field to avoid having expenses not considered and that can generate losses in your venture.

At Transatlantic we can support you with free advice in this regard.

Every ship has an estimated schedule of days of route between one port and another,
however there are certain routes that it is not possible to cover directly, and some transshipment is necessary in an intermediate port. It is usual for these transfers to generate a few days of delay because the arrival and transfer ships do not coincide as planned.
Weather issues can also represent delays in travel days, especially on certain routes and certain seasons. Usually the delays arise due to the lack of spaces in the ships, which is known as container rolling, and means that by not having enough space for a certain exit, the container is waiting for a next one. This happens in times of high demand, with an emphasis on certain high-volume cargo ports.

The coverage of merchandise insurance is for damages during transit, as long as the packaging of the merchandise is adequate, and also its accommodation within it.

Road accident damages are also covered, as long as the contracted transport has the minimum safety requirements. An eventuality such as theft can be covered, once the claim has been filed with the competent authority and determined that the contracted transport met the minimum requirements. Our insurance coverage is 100%.

Freight costs are determined by the shipping companies market, which in turn is tied to fluctuating supply and demand for goods. There are seasons of high demand for goods, so the demand for transport also rises, and with it the price of freight. There are other factors to consider such as the cost of fuel, which directly affects the bunker, an indispensable input for ships and their movements. External issues such as the closure of some port terminals, congestion on routes, pandemic, wars, are also price triggers.

Storage is the charge made by the port terminal for having a container within its facilities for
more than five days. The collection of demurrage is made by the shipping company for the
use of more than ten days (with exceptions) of its container after the ship arrives at the port
of destination. The stays is a charge that comes from the inland carrier for having the container mounted on its chassis and with its head and pilots tied for more than 4 days.

If you need more information about it, we can gladly support you.

It is one of our main markets, from main ports such as Shanghai, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Qingdao, Xiamen, to smaller ports such as Dalian, Chongqing, Fuzhou. How do we coordinate it? Depending on your product, we design the logistics that best suits you.

We use more than 10 agents in China, with whom we constantly have different freight offers, to ensure that we are really giving our customers the best cost.  Regarding transit times, we privilege the offer of direct ocean freight without transshipments, to avoid delays, however it is not always possible, so when presenting a quote we are clear about this point, about if the container will have an extra stop at a Pacific Ocean port.

Overnight coordination is one of our strengths, so we achieve optimal times to open bookings and get empty equipment for the suppliers. Most shipments in China are closed under the FOB INCOTERM; however, we also have the capacity to coordinate EXW shipments.

If your cargo comes from China, ship with us.

East Coast, West Coast, Gulf and Miami. We handle your cargo from anywhere in the United States, especially if it is EXW, which is regularly an incoterm widely used by American suppliers.  We know that internal ground transportation costs have reduced its offer and getting a container moved has been complicated, so we’ve expanded our network of partners in the U.S. to get the right booking times at the best possible cost. There are route options, but just like in China, we try to look for the most direct ones for the benefit of our customers. Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, are ports from which we are coordinating shipments daily. New Orleans, Hueneme, Savannah, Newark, are very useful options also to go on board to Guatemala.

We have contracts with Sealand, Seaboard, Hapag Lloyd, ONE, and other leading shipping companies, so our prices are really competitive.

We are experts in shipping from the USA

One of the routes with the most congestion and with the higher price
increases for Guatemala in recent years. To optimally ship from Brazil, it is necessary to be aware and prepare for the opening of spaces from the
different shipping companies that work this origin for Guatemala, in this way it is possible to get spaces and guarantee the availability of equipment. As Transatlantic we maintain a constant review with all shipping lines to inform us about their services and routes. Rio Grande, Vitoria, Itajai, Santos, Navegantes, Itapoá, are the ports with the highest demand for containers to Guatemala. We have a group of 10 agents at origin to guarantee departures, spaces and a competitive price.

At least once a year we receive the visit of one of them in Guatemala to share personally with our clients and listen to their needs directly.

Imports from Brazil is one of our strengths.

Dominican Republic is one of the countries with the highest growth in its demand for Guatemalan products, which has greatly benefited exports. The
route, which at first was very advantageous, in recent years has become quite
expensive and has had problems of availability of spaces on ships. Shipping
lines are expected to increase their efforts to expand the offer of services from
Guatemala to the entire Caribbean, especially for the ports of Caucedo and
Río Haina, in the Dominican Republic. We have departures every week for these two ports, with different strategies according to the needs of our customers. We have a long route and a short route, with their respective price and departure differences.

The growth of exports to the Dominican Republic has made this destination
one of our top priorities.

For the protection of your merchandise during its land transit in Guatemala,
we coordinate armed guards trained to react in case of an attempt of robbery.
Our custodians report, once every hour, their location and report on news.
The coordination of the guards is immediate, so in a few minutes after the
confirmation of the service, we have the armed policeman inside the cabin
guarding the container.

For greater protection of your cargo, and total peace of mind, our security
patrols always guard the transit of your cargo, with reports every half hour on their location and the news it may occour at the moment. We have guarded merchandises with high values without any incident reports so far.

Our specialized cargo insurance has 100% coverage on the value of the merchandise plus freight, that is, in case of an eventuality, theft or accident,
we replace the total amount of your investment. Our operations are supported
by exclusive cargo insurers based in Europe, so by dominate the subject we assure an accurate and a non-complicated operation.

From Puerto Quetzal, Puerto Barrios or Santo Tomás de Castilla to Guatemala City or another destination within the country, our costs and service are optimal. We coordinate shipments in advance to avoid the problems of restrictions and, if possible, we also avoid driving at night. Although we are subject to the fluctuations of the price of fuel, we are always competitive within the market. About the weight of the merchandise above the limit allowed for two axles, we started a charge of extra weight from 21,000 kilos, which gives advantages to our customers that barely exceed the line of 20 tons.

We would love to coordinate your land shipments in Guatemala

One of the Guatemala main trading partners is Mexico, and the land route
between Guatemala and Mexico is heavily traveled by vans with both import
and export merchandise. It may become a route to be careful of, especially for issues of safety due to robbery, in certain sections and at certain times it is almost imperative not to circulate. We know this because we work on it every day. Therefore, safety is one of our top priorities, despite and beyond the cargo insurance. Merchandise insurance is a reactive tool to use in very extreme case if necessary, the important thing is to avoid eventualities such as theft or accidents. We have defined the route, we know the route, and we know how and when to circulate. Our pilots have safe stopping points, and have clear instructions for what time they can drive through certain areas.
Apart from the issue of safety, our units are of models no older than six years, nd our pilots of very little rotation, with training in the handling of the differentmerchandises to be transported. We do not transfer cargo from one container to another.

Exports fromGuatemala to Mexico are executed in the same units with which the cargomoves from Mexico to CA, taking advantage of the returns, making an exclusive change of head at the border.

Work Mexico with us

specific loads require permits from the different State institutions, for
example, refrigeration equipment needs permission from the Ministry of
Environment to enter the country, medicines, require permission from the
Ministry of Health, MAGA food, diplomatic utensils require Minex franchise,
etc.
Everything is tied to its tariff classification, correct and precise, and if you do
not have the necessary permits when the containers arrive at port, or the cargo arrives at the airport, the products cannot enter the country, generating
high costs that will affect your business directly. Therefore, it is necessary to
have knowledge of our own merchandise, and a good agency advice in this
regard that validates our decisions. At Transatlantic we are extremely careful with the tariff classification and permits that each item requires. Get advice from us.

The management of the Central American Tariff System is essential for the
timely and correct tariff classification of products. In the beginning, it is each
manufacturer – supplier who gives us the number of items that corresponds
according to their criteria; However, in each country the level of subheadings
may be different, so it is advisable to seek support to avoid customs
problems. The technical details are of paramount importance, considering that we may have to defend our classification at some point before a customs technician who has doubts about it. What a product was made for or what it is made of, are the two main criteria to choose a certain item. It’s as simple as that, and at the same time it’s complex.

Lean on us to classify your products.

The sooner we have ready the documents that allow us to work our DUCA,
and the DUCA itself, much better will be the performance of the time of our
management in customs, whether in port, airport, border or fiscal warehouse. The invoice, packing list, MBL, HBL, consignment letter or air waybill, merchandise insurance certificate, and any other document that supports our import or export must be on hand as soon as possible for proper tariff classification, tax calculation, and cost proration.
In anticipation it is also advisable to consider that there is always a possibility hat the customs technician asks for extra information about the merchandise to support its value in customs or its tariff classification, therefore, it is important to have a technical sheet of the product, a contract of sale, support of payments to the supplier, and have clarity about the accounting entries that our shipment generates.

For us, anticipation is the key

Once anticipated, with a correct tariff classification, and with the permits ready, customs management is much faster and easier. It should be a quick procedure. The signing of the DUCA, the payment of taxes, the selective, and the presentation of documents are a matter of the same day.

Of course it depends on external factors.

Costa Este, Costa Oeste, Golfo y Miami.

No trasegamos carga.
